  • Be able to cartoon out the technical document deliverables and calculate cost effective fees with assistance
  • Should have a varied portfolio of past project types that can be drawn on while documenting the current project.  Previous experience with the same project type as they now be asked to technically document is a key requirement to have.
  • Be someone that naturally follows through on commitments.  They have to learn to build the client’s trust while developing design ideas into constructible documents.  Ability to solve difficult coordination issues as they arise (code misinterpretations, system design busts, material substitutions) with professionalism
  • Active mentoring of design team members
  • Good knowledge of what each design consultant can offer the team in terms of specific system options
  • Be committed to improving the CJ+C design process by pursuing continuing education opportunities that are technical in nature.  Getting involved with outside organizations that are research oriented would be a good ability to develop
  • Be very technically oriented and have the ability to get each teammate to develop/exhibit this skill
  • Having a strong technical background in terms of materials knowledge, detailing, and systems coordination
  • Be willing to offer their best effort at all times
  • This person must have a broad knowledge of CJ+C’s activities and culture, possess ownership thinking
  • Licensed Architect
  • Be involved with regional or national technical standards group (Construction Specifications Institute for example) that is design/construction related

  • Auto-Cad program – have a high level of skill so detailing can be done that is not appropriate to do in REVIT.  Also need to convert back and forth between REVIT and AutoCad so files of other consultants that are not 3D can be coordinated
  • REVIT program – have a medium to high level of skill to edit the work of others or draw as needed based on project size and teammate skills.  Developing BIM coordinator skills should be a key goal for professional growth
  • MS Word document creation and writing skills.  Effective specification editing is key skill, needs to be mentored by CJ Specs/QA leader
  • MS Excel spreadsheet document creation and editing skills are valuable to have.  Code analysis, simple scheduling and data calculations can all be done more efficiently with spreadsheet knowledge
  • Data filing system expertise – need to be able to store immense amounts of information that range in content and detail.  Active mentoring by PM and CJ Specs/QA leader should be sought out by PA
  • Math skills – have strong knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and basic algebra formulas.  Will be looking at and creating many documents that rely on good math knowledge
  • Public Speaking/ Leadership training should be pursued by this level PA

LEED AP accreditation should be pursued
  • Specifications – have the ability to edit master sections.  Develop their knowledge of products to understand specification quality liability risks.  Need to know how to write specs on a non-proprietary basis with assistance from CJ Specs/QA leader
  • System coordination and detailing experience – learn to gauge how complete the technical documents are at any point in the project.  Be able to identify the impact of one material or system on the others that it needs to be integrated with
