Shift Apartments Wins MHN 2020 Excellence Award

With more than 25 distinct categories having been professionally evaluated by distinguished industry professionals, The Shift Apartments Complex was awarded Silver in the ”Best Development and Design of Mixed-Use” design competition. Thank you, Multi-Housing News for the Excellence Award!

The unique and striking design of “Shift” is based on an industrial style that combines a bold, sculptural massing with pitched lines and a façade of rust-colored strips of metal siding, alternating with dark window walls, to create an iconic element that adds vibrancy to the San Diego East Village skyline. The distinctive architectural design is Bohemian in nature, inspired by the East Village neighborhood’s industrial history as seen through the eyes of artist and local legend, Bob Sinclair. This aesthetic style boldly celebrates the legacy of East Village as a community that welcomes and supports the arts and artists, especially those who found the beauty in the neighborhood’s rich history of industry.

The Link Grand Opening

The Link, affordable housing located on 17th & G in San Diego’s East Village, celebrated its Grand Opening last month! Watch the video by Affirmed Housing for more info on this project, as well as a few words from Claudia Escala, Principal at Carrier Johnson + CULTURE.

The project includes 72 units of permanent supportive housing for persons earning below 40% area median income and 14 units of affordable housing for persons earning below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The project name exemplifies the client’s vision of creating housing enriched with support resources – a special place that can link its formerly homeless residents with the help they need to survive and thrive.
