Carrier Johnson + CULTURE’s proposal to build a micro hotel containing dozens of sleeping pods for $35 per night on Pacific Highway recently won the unanimous support from the San Diego Port Commissioners.

The $10.6 million project designed by Carrier Johnson with the Los Angeles-based development team, Stay Open, reflects similar projects in New Zealand built by the same developer, CaRE Development.

The hotel will include 226 stackable 30-square-foot pods, plus six rooms with private baths.  A proposed rooftop restaurant and lounge space for public events is also included in the design scheme.
