New High-Rise Planned for Courthouse Site

A new 500 foot high tower will soon be the next major addition to downtown San Diego’s skyline.

Holland Partner Group and Carrier Johnson + CULTURE are designing a skyscraper planned for 220 West Broadway that is set to be over 35 stories tall.  The structure will include 431 residential units and space for offices and retail. The development solution replaces the 3-block courthouse and jail site with mixed-use residential and retail.

The development plan for “Courthouse Commons” takes advantage of the opportunity to tie together all municipal facilities within the Civic Core, resulting in a mixture of uses that create a 24/7 community by bringing together residential, restaurant and retail uses, and transforming the current government only environment.
