High Functionality
The new administration building is a 16,000 s.f. two-story building that includes administrative and driver support areas and houses the dispatching room, training areas, and offices. The bus maintenance and parts warehouse facility is a new 50,000 s.f., one-story building which maintains and services the buses.
The expansion and reconfiguration of the site increases site capacity from 174 buses to 240 buses, including new South Bay Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses. The high-capacity bus wash uses a reclaimed water system and is able to wash 250 buses every night – three times the amount of the previous facility. The expanded site also accommodates all service trucks, relief cars, and supervisor and staff vehicles.
Sustainable features of the project included natural daylighting, photovoltaic electricity generation, and a high-performance building envelope. This was the first design-build project of this scope administered by SANDAG.
