The Point Loma Nazarene University Science Complex received the top honors in its category, winning the Grand Award Honors for Best Education Project. The PLNU Science Complex encompasses two buildings connected by exterior walkways that house 36,000 s.f. of classroom and advanced teaching lab spaces. Perched atop a sloped hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the science complex – dedicated as Sator Hall and Latter Hall – maximizes orientation to the east/west to create view corridors and includes an arced metal feature wall that protects the glass-faced learning spaces from the heat of the sun. Circulation is externalized to also take advantage of the natural setting, dramatic views and comfortable weather. PLNU’s new Science Complex provides a contemporary environment with state-of-the-art systems to maintain the growth and success of the University’s science program.

The Brand received an Award of Merit for Best Multifamily Housing Community – 100-250 du/acre. The Brand, a landmark gateway location, is a mixed-use project encompassing 401 apartment units and includes generous outdoor space, recreation facilities, pool, and a two green roofs and terraces to create an oasis for its residents in the heart of the busy city.  The architecture of the Brand project seeks to be a forward-looking design that is a visual landmark fitting harmoniously in its urban surroundings.  The uses of color celebrate the retail space
s below, giving the building a commercial flair.  The eclectic mix of old and new is what makes Glendale interesting and vibrant. The Brand is a singular development responding to important urban design considerations and is a contemporary contributor to an overall eclectic design pattern of Downtown Glendale.
