2015 Solar Decathlon: Team Orange “Casa Del Sol” Groundbreaking
Last Friday Akiko Yamamoto and Julie Yang from our Orange offices represented Carrier Johnson + CULTURE at the groundbreaking for “Casa Del Sol”, the entry of Team Orange County in the 2015 Solar Decathlon. You can read more about the event in this article: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/county-639721-orange-team.html.
The Solar Decathlon is a biennial event sponsored by the US Department of Energy that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The competition winner will be the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. For more information, visit the official website: http://www.solardecathlon.gov/index.html.
“Team Orange” is made up of four institutions: UC Irvine, Chapman University, Irvine Valley College, and Saddleback College. UC Irvine’s Campus Architect requested that Carrier Johnson + CULTURE assist Team Orange, and Julie Yang has spent the last six weeks working closely with them. The Solar Decathlon will be open to the public in Great Park on October 8 – 18, 2015.
