The CJ+C team is committed to sustainable design throughout all aspects of our lives. Recently, our San Diego office hosted a succulent building workshop to celebrate Earth Month, nature, and biophilic design. Our sustainability committee regularly plans events that acknowledge the great responsibility we have as designers of the built environment.
Volunteers from the CJ+C team recently partnered with Tree San Diego, Urban Interventions, and the Downtown San Diego Partnership to plant 100 trees in the East Village by Arbor Day. Our team planted 2 beautiful, healthy trees along 8th Avenue, with CJ+C’s Sempra Energy building as a backdrop. CJ+C is honored to be recognized by ArchDaily as one of San Diego’s best examples of contemporary architecture for our Point Loma Nazarene University Science Center project.
“Designed by San Diego-based architectural firm, Carrier Johnson + CULTURE, and constructed by Rudolph and Sletten, Inc. General Contractors, the 36,000-square-foot complex sits at the heart of the San Diego campus. The innovative design, marked by a curved stainless-steel environmental screen and its prominent coastal site, becomes a memorable home for the university’s rapidly growing and acclaimed interdisciplinary science program, unifying Christian values with a broad curriculum and state-of-the-art technology, laboratories, and classrooms.” -Eric Baldwin, ArchDaily
Claudia was recently selected as one of San Diego’s Women of Influence in Architecture and Design by the San Diego Business Journal. Congratulations, Claudia, on this well-deserved recognition! We are proud to have you represent our firm and lead the way for all women in the industry. Cheers to you and thank you for making a difference in San Diego’s community!
CJ+C is thrilled to announce our partnership with The Michaels Organization, Suffolk Construction, County of San Diego – Government DGS, and the City of San Diego to transform two blocks in Downtown San Diego to build a sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective housing project.
Covering two city blocks of excess State property, this mixed-use project is expected to include office space, retail, and other commercial elements that support the affordable and market-rate housing units.
Congratulations to Senior Associate John D. Martinez, Yogesh Ravichandar and the University of San Diego team for a winning design entered into the NAIOP University Challenge! The winning design was a redevelopment proposal of La Jolla Village Square that envisions a transit-oriented community with office, housing, restaurants, a grocery store, and a new children’s museum.
“Student teams from San Diego State University’s Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate, UC San Diego Department of Urban Studies and Planning, and the University of San Diego – Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate compete in a business case study real estate competition on the highest and best use for a real, proposed site|case study in San Diego County.”
CJ+C was a proud sponsor of the ULI Spring Meeting this year. We enjoyed hosting an event in our office (Duane Hagewood with Holland Partner Group), leading the roundtable discussion “Urban City Mama: Creating a Future for Downtown Families From a Personal Perspective” (Claudia Escala & Katee Chard), and meeting our industry partners over the 3-day event (Sean Baba). Thank you for a memorable time and it was great to see you all!
