USD PTA Student Housing

Vision

Terraced into the hillside and woven into the heart of the University of San Diego campus, the PTA Student Housing community is a living-learning environment that elevates connectivity—between students, campus, and nature. With 321 units and 700 beds, this thoughtfully layered residential village embraces topography and community in equal measure.

Perched between Linda Vista Road and Camino San Diego, the USD PTA Student Housing development reimagines hillside living as an integrated student community. The project’s design follows the natural contours of the terrain, stepping up the slope to blend seamlessly with the existing campus fabric. At the highest elevation, a pedestrian bridge provides a symbolic and functional connection—linking the top level of the mid-rise residential structure directly to the main grade of campus.

From this nexus, the community cascades downward in three distinct residential wings. These legs of housing embrace a trio of amenity decks at multiple levels, creating outdoor gathering spaces that reinforce student wellness, social engagement, and campus culture. Breezeways and open-air corridors not only break down the scale of the building but also provide visual and physical connections across the hillside, enhancing ventilation, views, and movement throughout the site.

The experience culminates at the base: a welcoming lobby adjacent to a major entry plaza and vehicular drop-off along Linda Vista Road. Here, the project announces itself with generosity and clarity—offering a sense of arrival that honors both the student journey and the landscape it inhabits.

With a focus on connection—between people, programs, and place—the USD PTA Student Housing project represents a culture-first approach to academic living, embodying the University’s mission of community, elevation, and enduring impact.
