San Diego Center for Children

San Diego Center for Children Expansion

Vision

San Diego Center for Children Expansion is a proposed community mental health clinic intended as the new centerpiece for the existing SDCC campus in Kearny Mesa. The two-story buildingĀ replaces an existing surface parking lot and provides a variety of mental health services, community-oriented spaces, offices and exam rooms.

The building is oriented towards the adjacent canyon to incorporate the natural beauty into a therapeutic place of healing. The three-pronged layout organizes the various functions and forms two distinct courtyards, one for public events and one for secluded outdoor therapy sessions. The whimsical exterior design and the soft curves are intended to be inviting for children and present a building that feels more cozy and less institutional.
