Gaslamp 5th Avenue Promenade

Vision

The Fifth Avenue Promenade is a key street improvement project set to revitalize the historic Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. This initiative, developed by the Gaslamp Quarter Association and Carrier Johnson + Culture, will establish a strong north-south linkage along Fifth Avenue, solidifying its role as the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter and Downtown Civic Core.

This project will dramatically re-envision and re-brand the street realm, creating an environment that respects the Gaslamp Quarter’s rich history while effectively connecting major event and live/work centers. Key improvements include new pedestrian zones and significantly wider sidewalks, enhancing walkability and creating more inviting public spaces.

The Fifth Avenue Promenade is designed to benefit both local residents and tourists. It will improve the overall experience of navigating the district, encouraging longer stays and greater exploration. Local shops, restaurants, and businesses are expected to thrive from increased foot traffic and an enhanced, vibrant street atmosphere.

The goal for this project is to foster a relaxed yet vibrant mood within the district. It represents a forward-thinking approach to urban design, aiming to create a more functional, appealing, and economically beneficial environment for all who visit and use the Gaslamp Quarter. This project is a direct investment in the future vitality of one of San Diego’s most iconic neighborhoods.
