- Ability to form a design opinion that is adapted into a marketing campaign to promote the firm at large
- Creative writing skills and the ability to relay a design concept statement to marketing for the creation of promotional materials and project data sheets.
Responsibilities for this position include the following:
- Coordinating construction administration and conducting technical research that encompasses research, development, and implementation of plans and designs of commercial and residential interior environments to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces, thereby increasing productivity and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.
- Executing the interior design process within the overall framework of the project team, following a systematic and coordinated methodology which includes research, analysis, and integration of information into the creative process, resulting in an appropriately planned and designed interior environment.
- Analyzing client’s needs, goals, and life and safety requirements.
- Integrating findings with knowledge of interior design principles.
- Formulating preliminary design concepts that are appropriate, functional, and aesthetic
- Developing conceptual design and design development of interior projects.
- Selection of interior finishes, furniture, and equipment.
- Leading Procurement staff to ensure successful specification, plan placement, and staging of goods purchased for the project.
- Developing final design recommendations through appropriate presentation media.
- Production of space plans, furniture plans, elevations, conceptual and finished design presentation documentation.
- Development of Construction Documents.
- Coordinate with Project Manager and Team in construction documentation production using CAD and/or Revit.
- Incorporating applicable building code and ADA code compliance regulations.
- Providing solutions to design problems and generating design alternatives.
- Reviewing drawings, mock-ups, materials, and finish samples submitted by project contractors.
- Reviewing pricing, materials, and value engineering for projects.
- Adhering to/Management of project time and material budgets.
- Managing delegated tasks and budgets to team members.
- Ability to create a critical path production schedule and the ability to adjust direction based on clients, contractor, or PM request.

Specifically, the Senior Interior Designer/Project Manager is capable of performing any or all of the following services under the guidance of a Principal:
Programming
- Identifying and analyzing the client’s needs and goals
- Ability to conduct a client vision session to determine design quantitative and qualitative requirements.
- Understanding of the client’s brand standards and how they apply/enhance the design solution
- Evaluating existing documentation and conditions
- Assessing project resources and limitations
- Identifying life, safety, and code requirements
- Analyzing design objectives and spatial requirements
- Coordinating with consultants and other specialists when required by professional practice or regulatory approval
- Ability to create a design Cartoon Set to ensure that project team is clear on design deliverables and presentation materials.
Conceptual Design
- Formulating preliminary plans and design concepts for client discussion and approval that appropriately describe the character, function, and aesthetic of a project.
- The ability to create/maintain/enhance a written design concept statement that carries throughout the project.
Design Development
- Developing for client review and approval final design recommendations, inclusive of space planning and furniture layouts; wall, window, floor, and ceiling treatments; furniture, fixtures, and millwork; colors, finishes, and materials; hardware, lighting, electrical, communications, AV and branded element/signage requirements
- Developing art, accessory, and signage wayfinding programs
- Working with and overviewing all Procurement activities ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Preparing presentation media inclusive of drawings, sketches and color, material and furniture presentation boards.
- Preparing bid documentation.
- Preparing construction documentation.
- Coordination of specialty project consultants with specific roles and responsibilities that impact the design development of the project.
Contract Documents
- Preparing working drawings and specifications for non-load bearing interior construction, materials, finishes, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment for client’s approval.
- Collaborating with specialty consultants and licensed practitioners in the technical areas of mechanical, electrical, and load-bearing design as required by professional practice or regulatory approval.
- Coordinate and incorporate technical requirements and/or design solutions during permit review process.
- Assist in General contractor selection and bid review process.
- Provide creative design solutions to maintain design intent and vision that align with the project budget and bid challenges.
Contract Administration
- Assisting in obtaining required permits.
- Conducting on-site visits and field inspections.
- Overseeing the quality of production and installation of furnishings, fixtures, and equipment on client’s behalf.
- Preparing lists of deficiencies for clients use.
- Provide creative design solutions to maintain design intent as response to existing conditions and challenges during construction.

If you choose to add additional dependents this will be at a reduced cost to you and deducted from your paycheck each pay period (pre-tax). The amount will vary depending on the plan you select. Carrier Johnson + Culture 401(k) plan does not include any matching. In addition to offering the 401(k) plan Carrier Johnson + Culture offers an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
Time-Off Benefits
You will accrue vacation at a rate of 3.33 hours for each pay period, (80 hours per year, or 2 weeks) for the first 4 years. 5.00 hours for each pay period begins accruing after 4 years (120 hours per year, or 3 weeks).
In addition to your vacation accrual, you will receive eight (8) paid holidays and you will receive forty eight (48) hours sick leave per year immediately upon hire.
At Carrier Johnson + Culture we offer two regular work schedules: 8 hours/5 days per week or a 9 hours Monday thru Thursday and a 4 hour Friday. Within these hours we offer a hybrid work model of in office and remote working.
