Union Street bridge removed

The Union Street pedestrian bridge linking the San Diego Hall of Justice to the old downtown county courthouse was removed over the weekend.  Carrier Johnson + CULTURE is designing the Courthouse Commons, a 37-story mixed-use building planned for the site after the demolition of the old Superior Court building, as well as the Courthouse Commons Tunnel, a 328′ long Prisoner Transfer Tunnel replacing the Union Street bridge, as well as the Front Street bridge removed earlier this year.  The new tunnel will connect the Central Courthouse with the existing County Central Jail about 50′ underground.
